I have a few different interest in my life most of which involve the outdoors. I love big mountains, ones that demand respect of the higest level. Mountains which if not respected can easily kill. I also love photography/videography and have paraglided in the past all to breifly. Therfore when saw this video posted on UKClimbing I took the time to watch it.

On the razor sharp cutting edge of adventure paragliding, The Birdman of the Karakoram takes you from armchair to the most extreme flying location on earth, when high altitude paragliding pioneer John Silvester takes Alun Hughes on the tandem flight to end all tandem flights.

Supported by nothing more than a ten kilo nylon wing and John’s uncanny paragliding skills, the pair commit themselves deep into a remote and hypoxic world of snow, ice and previously unexplored terrain, where flying to survive becomes the name of the game.

The Birdman of the Karakorum demolishes any ideas you may have had about paragliding being about serenely floating around the sky.

Last weekend was a hectic one. My wife and I moved house and Mr Squirrel came along too. He was very useful and help us pack up and clean the furniture before we packed it away. Luckily i was on hand to take a few pictures of the action which you can see in the gallery.

Moving house this time was different, we were moving back in with my mother and the process of packing all our possessions for storage felt different from any other move. The reason for the move is so we can accompany Mr Squirrel on his adventure which is due to start in October. The first port of call in Nepal to walk 100 miles around Annapurna, a Himalayan peak whose summit stands at 8091 meters.
